Welcome to the JAA

Welcome from JAA President Jeffery Biggs:

Welcome to the Journalism Alumni Association's Web site. JAA was organized in 1991 to promote professionalism in journalism by giving back to Troy University and the Hall School of Journalism.

Today, the JAA is a professional development organization dedicated promoting the success of Hall School of Journalism graduates and students through our growing network of members. Career connections are made through the networking opportunities available through the JAA.

JAA operates through its network of journalism graduates, which covers print, broadcast, advertising and public relations. Our graduates work in every imaginable field, including education, medical, government, broadcast journalism, print, public relations, marketing and corporate media. We are a very diverse group of successful people.

We have years of experience in our fields, so who could better assist the future graduates of the school? This alumni base provides speakers for classes, provides a job network to assist alumni and students who are looking toward graduation, raises funds for scholarships and supports the school by promoting its goals and objectives.

This same network of alumni helps you get re-connected with Troy and your fellow classmates. It also gives you an easy way to share career information, your Trojan spirit and your Troy pride.

In addition to these endeavors, we honor alumni each year with the Alumni of the Year awards. Submitting the name of someone you know who does an outstanding job in their field allows us to honor that person in front of the entire school. It truly is a great honor to receive one of these awards.

If you're visiting these pages, you must have an interest in the school and, I hope, in JAA. JAA is one of the strongest alumni associations on campus and you can help us maintain our status by joining today. If you join JAA, you're automatically a member of the National Alumni Association. However, if you join the National Alumni Association, you're not automatically a member of JAA. If you choose not to join today and someone from Troy University calls you about joining the national association, remember to tell the caller that you want to join JAA. That's the only way you can be added to our membership.

Help shape Troy University's future. Help shape the Hall School of Journalism's future. Help shape your future. Help secure and improve the value of your degree. Get active, join the JAA, share your talents with the JAA and stay in touch. I know you'll be glad you did.

"The thing the alumni should be doing is helping the students however they can."

Welcome from Hall School of Journalism's Director, Dr. Steven Padgett

Welcome to the Journalism Alumni Association web site.

This site provides a resource for alumni of the Hall School of Journalism at Troy University, and gives up-to-date information about news and happenings for JAA.

With technology increasing at a break-neck pace, more and more communication professionals are being called upon to branch out and augment the skills learned in the classroom with new media like e-mail, listservs and the world wide web.

The Journalism Alumni Association hopes this web site will serve as a valuable resource for journalism alumni as they continue to advance their skills in the ever-changing marketplace.

Created and maintained by alumni of the Hall School of Journalism, this site strives to present information of importance on news and events of interest to all journalism alumni. There is also a section called "Where are you now," which hopefully will grow into an online "living" directory of our graduates.

Our goal is to create an online community with contact information from each graduate of the Hall School of Journalism. As the needs of our graduates change, we will attempt to update this site to include additional information. As always, your ideas and input on how to improve this resource are always appreciated.

We look forward to your participation in this new communications venture and hope to hear from you online!
